Tips for writing your query
Start with the Basics
Include your name, of course, the title of your manuscript, genre, word count, and any comparable titles and/or works of entertainment (such as television shows, video games, movies, comics, etc.) that have similar elements of your story. If you feel your work is different from the current marketplace, tell me something it’s the opposite of and why you felt inspired to write from a different perspective.
Hook me in
What’s your story about? Make your pitch in a paragraph or two like you’re writing the jacket copy of your book. (Helpful hint: make sure your conflict and tension are clear.)
Tell me a little about yourself!
Here are some areas to help get you started: where are you from; what is your full-time job; are you social media savvy and have a strong presence already; what inspired your story and what message are you trying to share with the world through this book? Have you been published previously? If you’re pitching a non-fiction work; what’s your experience and what makes you an expert in the focus of your book?
